We just spoke with the Medical examiners office. Mike died instantly, and completely pain free. Cause of death was, hypertensive and Atherosclerotic disease. Well basically his heart exploded. His body will be released to us tomorrow. The immediate family will be able to see him. He will be cremated shortly after that. Eventually we will spread his ashes in his favorite places.

We are finishing the details for his celebration of life ceremony and will let you all know as soon as possible.

  1. I am so sorry to hear about Mike. I really appreciated his zest for life, love of family, and love of the outdoors. He is an inspiration and his memories and energy will live on.

My thoughts are with the extended Buchanan family. Mike was a special man and I am sure he was an even more special husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.

  4. We are stunned and so sad to hear about Mike. Mike was that one person in life that even if you had the pleasure of meeting him only once you would never forget him. His spirit of competition and joking ways were unmatched at couples Bunko every December. He loved to talk to Mike about engines and transmissions in buses and fire trucks and would share with me his wisdom of women. We love your family Judy and our hearts ache for all of you.

  5. The Neighborhood Dad who will be greatly, greatly missed. Growing up with Mike’s kids and living around the block from them I experienced quite a bit of Mike Buchanan. My youngest memories of Mike are on the soccer field where Mitch and Brian use to play. As Julie and I became good friends then the harassing left the field and continued as I spent more time with the family. Mike had a very infectious way about him. You couldn’t help but smile when you were in the same space as him. Maybe it was the fact he was always wearing shorts no matter the temperature outside. Or his goofy grin that made you believe he was up to something. Always friendly, and forever caring. Growing up I watched him be a present and loving father to his kids. I always knew by the way he was with her that he adored Judy too. It was a highlight if you ran into him at the grocery store or local restaurant. With an obnoxious hello or the beep of the horn he was sure to greet you and put a smile on your face. There is irony that Mike would leave this earth with an exploding heart because that is just how he lived his life and treated others. It deeply saddens that he is gone, but never will he be forgotten. My prayers for comfort and peace during this time are with your family. As he would have done for any of us, we are here for you.

  6. Today so many people lost a special person. Mike was a one of a kind of guy. He always had a smile and a joke. Last year at Judy's for Bunko he took me out to the garage and showed me a wooden truck he had made and we talked about trucks and motors and he of course asked about how our semi's were and how Jim liked or disliked the changes that have been made. The other day i saw Mike and Judy walking over by Allen York park and what stands out in my mind more than anything is how they were just talking and smiling at one another. Mike will be greatly missed he was a fun guy.

  7. Peace in the Wind

I only knew Mike for a short time, but I knew he was a very special spirit. Mike always had a kind word for me and he was one of those characters I loved being around. He had this infectious laugh that would turn a smile. He was truly a great friend to my husband James and on occassion I would see him during a carpool drop off while getting the mail. He drove a jeep and I would see him around Bonney Lake. Theres Mike I would say, almost as if I knew him better than anyone.
Mike will be missed and my heart and prayers goes out to you Judy, your children and all the grandchildren. By God's grace, PEACE will find its place in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

    Blessings,
    Theresa Whitesel

  8. I first met Bucky on the bus/train commuting home from Seattle about a year and a half ago. I had recently lost my mom unexpectedly (she was about Bucky's age) and he was so compassionate and empathetic. It was so natural for him to put a smile on the face of anyone around him.
About 7months later my dad gave me a harley for my birthday. Of course I told Buck about it! A month or two after that he asked me if I was out on my bike over the beautiful weekend, laughing...when I said no, he said "oops"! Apparently he threw a water baloon at some poor sap on a harley thinking it was me!
Bucky - you will be missed by many and continued to be loved by all. My heart goes out to your wife, children, and grandchildren!
